"Turbo" wrappers. Chapter 0. Intro.

Sweet memories from 90s.

It's really hard to explain the excitement that I feel looking at this simple picture. May be only those who lived in Russia in far 90s could understand me. So why? And what is it? The image presents the cover of bubble gum called "Turbo" produced by Kent in Turkey from the second half of 1980s... "Turbo" gum was one of the very first FOREIGN products that was massively brought to USSR. It's even not so important if it would be good or bad product, but it was foreign. So the great success was just guaranteed for it. Very first gum was "Donald", but "Turbo" that had come second was much better. And not only because of flavor. It had wrappers with pictures of cars!

This days we suffered from the lack of information from abroad because of Iron Curtain. The only source of car info (for example) was the journal "Za Rulyom"(Behind the Wheel") with one page demonstrating 2-3 foreign cars in month... In the early beginning the Curtain had gotten to fall and "Turbo" was the early bird of great informational flow that fell on our heads.

I was 8 in 1989. And I always used to interest cars. "Turbo" covers became messiah in that conditions. 70 wrappers = 70 cars from abroad. It could look kidding but in these times it was real treasure! Everyone had been collecting the "Turbo" wrappers. They were like money for kids. You could really barter everything for it. Kid having the greatest Turbo collection was the rich kid! That's why I will tell the full story about "Turbo" wrappers. It's the sweet nostalgia, it's priceless emotions from childhood. And also... it's about cars. And we all have motorhearts, and motorheads. Go deep with Turbo!
